How I Plan to Save $1000 by Christmas

Money Saving Made Easy!52 Week Chart (2).jpg

Are you looking for a way to start saving money this year? Are you evaluating your receipts and invoices from Christmas Holiday expenses? Dreading the incoming credit card bills? Here’s how you can avoid this cycle from repeating itself each year.

Like many people you are not alone. Now is the time to review and evaluate all of the expenses that were incurred during this past holiday season. Whether it was gifts, food or services you paid for in order to prepare yourself and home for the holidays, these are all expenses that could be paid for in advance. Calculate all of your expenses this month and start working on your budget for next Christmas. Start saving now with as little as $1 this first week of January. If you start this week and follow the plan through the end of the year, you can save as much as $1,378 by December 31st, hence the 52 week savings challenge! I came across this post from one of my favorite bloggers, Live As You Live It.

This is a very simple task that doesn’t take a lot to get you to the final goal.

Each week of the year, you will save that much in dollars.

Week ONE: You save $1.00

Week TWO: You save $2.00

Week THREE: You save $3.00 and so on.

I invite you to take this challenge with me and let me know how you are doing each week! I am going to save in $1 increments weekly. I am considering saving in One dollar increments Backwards! You can see your progress by putting the money into a labeled jar that has a nice chart to help you keep track of your saving progress. Thanks to LiveAsYouLiveLiveAsYouLive, these simple charts are available to print now so that you can get started ASAP!

Ebates: Shopping for Free!

Two years ago I found out about using Ebates to get money back from the things I buy online. To date, I have earned over $300 from using Ebates to make my purchases. This online service is simple to use.

If you frequently shop online and want to put some cash back into your wallet, then you’ll definitely want to familiarize yourself with cash back sites like Ebates. Ebates is a FREE cash back site that offers cash back when online shopping at popular stores such as Wal-mart, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Home Depot, Ebay, and many more!

* To get started with Ebates, you’ll first want to head over here to register for an account. Even sweeter, for a limited time, Ebates is offering all new registrants the option of a $10 bonus gift card to Barnes & Noble, Walmart, The Home Depot or more (keep in mind that you will only receive the gift card if you make purchases totaling $25+ within the first 90 days)

* Anytime you’re wanting to make an online purchase, be sure to log into your Ebates account to see if the store you’re wanting to purchase through is partnered with Ebates. You can find out by simply typing the name of the store in the Ebates search box.

* If the store is partnered with Ebates, you’ll find a certain percentage given for shopping through that link, which will be credited to your Ebates account within a few days of purchase! It’s very important to shop through the pop-up link that shows up after clicking “Shop Now” on Ebates as it contains your unique tracking link, which is needed to credit your account with the cash back!

* Once your account reaches $5.01, you’ll be eligible to receive your first check from Ebates. Checks are sent out every 3 months (4 times per year). If you prefer to get your money sent to you quicker you can choose to receive your cash back via Paypal.

* And don’t forget to refer all your friends to Ebates. You’ll earn $25 for every new qualified member that you refer. from now until December 31st. Plus, you can even earn gift cards, iPads, and more (keep in mind that qualified referrals are Ebates members who make purchases of $25+ within the first 90 days).

If you are on a budget and want to save money I suggest shopping now. Many stores are offering great discounts during the month of July. You will find a lot of retailers are offering Christmas in July sales, Black Friday in July sales and semi-annual sales. Prices have been slashed to all time lows like never before! Here are a few places where I was able to find some great deals for the people on my list. I will continue to add more stores and websites as I continue this series! Happy Shopping!!!

  1. has great prices on gifts that can be personalized for the special people in your life. I recently found this really cute mug for as low as $7.24 during one of their Christmas in July flash sales. Currently this mug is on sale for $11.24 which is still not a bad deal since the retail value is $24. Red Ceramic Mug

2. is a great place to get some really awesome deals! Recently had Prime Day for Amazon Prime Members. If you are not a Prime Member you can try it out with their free 30 day trial membership. I have found a lot of good deals on DVDs which are perfect for making movie night baskets or having a family movie night.

3. is an awesome site to get deal of food and other items. They have auctions that have great products that you can get from local vendors at unbelievable prices. also offers deals on adventures for the family and others on your lists.

4. is the go to place for great deals on gift cards, food gift items, and other great gift ideas. I often buy gift cards on this site. Occasionally they will have offers where you can purchase a $10 Starbuck gift card for a $5. They will also have gift certificates for online retailers such as Cheryl’s Cookies which often has offers of $12 for a $30 voucher. This year I plan to buy one of these to be able to get cookies for my family’s holiday dinners!
